"It would be wise to take a precautionary approach to chemicals until the effect is completely understandable because there may be contributing factors behind the increase in cases of cancer, diabetes, obesity and infertility after using these products." Jacquline said McGlad, executive director of the European Environment Agency as reported from zeenews, Monday (23/07/2012).
Materials such as sodium glutamate (MSG) and tartrazine is also found in tanning lotions and can cause allergies if their products are used in a long time. So also with Sulfur Dioxide and Benzophenone-3, the gender-bending chemicals that mimic the effect of estrogen is best compared to other chemicals.
Most of the tanning products are also used dihydroxyacetone (DHA) which can react with amino acids in the skin and cause skin to become darker.
Though tanning products managed to reap profits of around 100 million pound sterling in the UK and is one of the fastest-selling cosmetics. Worse yet, one third of women and 1 in 10 men in the UK claim to use it.
