obesity is one risk factor for premature death from chronic diseases such as heart disease and diabetes. The risk of death when accidents are also increasing, because obesity is often an excuse for not wearing a seat belt.

A study at the University of Buffalo in New York revealed that people with normal body weight 67 percent more devout than those wearing a seat belt in the category of severe obesity. In other words, fat people wear seat belts less often.

Severe obesity in the study were defined by Body Mass Index (BMI) above 40 kg/m2. In the meantime, said to be normal weight if BMI or comparison with the height ranging from 18.5 kg/m2 to 24.5 kg/m2.

"We found that the relationship between levels of obesity and adherence to wearing a seat belt when driving is directly proportional," said Dr. Dietrich Jehle, a professor of emergency medicine from MSN Health was quoted as saying on Monday (05/07/2012).

Disobedience to wear a seat belt when driving a car makes fat people more at risk of sudden death, not because of illness but because of an accident. Previously, obesity was associated with a lot of premature death from chronic illness such as heart disease.

The results are based on data from the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is in line with previous studies. One of them revealed that 56 percent of obese people are more vulnerable when riding a motorcycle accident.

But experts warned that the new research results will be presented at the meeting of the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine in Chicago, May 10 is still very early. Still need more research to ensure that obesity is directly proportional to the risk of dying from traffic accidents.
