Surprising Data About Cigarettes

Almost everyone knows that smoking is unhealthy, even for smokers themselves. Unfortunately, there are still many people around the world who are addicted to the tobacco rod to suck it. Data about cigarettes from around the world also seem surprising.

Generally no single organ in the body that are not affected by cigarette smoke, so almost all parts of the body can be damaged by smoking. This is because in a single cigarette contains 4000 chemicals of which 40 of them including toxins (toxic) or carcinogenic (can cause cancer).

But despite the fact it has been widely heralded, still many smokers who are not affected. As reported by about.com, Wednesday (09/05/2012), it appears that the statistical data about smoking is staggering.

A. There are 1.1 billion smokers in the world today and if this trend continues, that number will increase to 1.6 billion by 2025.

2. China is home to 300 million smokers who consume approximately 1.7 trillion cigarettes every year, or 3 million cigarettes a minute.

3. Worldwide, approximately 10 million cigarettes are purchased every minute, 15 billion are sold every day, and more than 5 trillion are produced and used on an annual basis.

4. It is estimated there are trillions of filters, filled with toxic chemicals from tobacco smoke, making the waste polluted environment.

5. Although the filter may look like white cotton, but the cigarette filter fibers are made of very thin plastic called cellulose acetate. Cigarette filter can take between 18 months to 10 years to decompose.

6. A typical manufactured cigarette contains approximately 8 or 9 milligrams of nicotine, while the nicotine content of cigar is 100 to 200 milligrams, with some as high as 400 milligrams.

7. There is enough nicotine in four or five cigarettes to kill an average adult if ingested whole.

8. The number of children who smoke at an alarming rate. There are about 3,000 children every day in the U.S. smoke, and 80,000 to 100,000 per day around the world.

9. Around the world, 1 in 5 teens ages 13 to 15 years have been smoking bars.

10. Every eight seconds, one human life lost to tobacco use somewhere in the world, which means there are about 5 million deaths each year due to smoking.
